Applying the Neutralizer Twice — Is It Better?

Yes, applying the neutralizer twice is actually standard practice in many perm procedures:

1. First Application (with rods still in):

• Apply neutralizer thoroughly to each rod.
• Let it sit for the full recommended time (usually 4-6min).
• This helps reform the internal bonds in the curled position.

2. Second Application (after removing rods):

• Gently remove the rods.
• Reapply the neutralizer to the hair and gently scrunch (crunch) the hair upward with your hands to help support and maintain the curl pattern that was just formed (Use an upward scrunching motion — cup the ends of your hair in your hands and gently push upward toward the scalp)
• Let it sit again for a few minutes (often 3–4 minutes).
• This ensures that all areas of the hair—especially the outer sections—are properly neutralized.
